What is Sunset Beach, NC known for?
Because of its unique positioning as an island and mainland town, Sunset Beach became known for its Pontoon Swing Bridge. The bridge consists of a pontoon barge with a house on top, called the Tender House, and a wooden road built over the pontoons that rose and fell with the tide. Due to traffic, the bridge was eventually replaced in 2010. The city of Sunset Beach has plans to create a museum celebrating the old bridge and the town’s history.
