CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound derived from the hemp plant. It is one of over 100 active cannabinoids found in cannabis, the source for the hemp plant. As a hemp-derived compound, CBD is not a psychoactive (like marijuana), rather it boasts numerous health benefits, in addition to a feeling of clarity and relaxation. Not only is CBD safe for humans and pets, but creates very few side effects.
CBD has been shown to help with:
Cannabinoids are the chemicals that give the cannabis plant its medical and recreational properties. Among the 113 cannabinoids produced, CBD and THC are the most prevalent and the most well-understood.
CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that has numerous benefits, such as anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties.
There are variety of cannabinoids, and some have been found to have antioxidant properties. CBD has been demonstrated to possess anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, and anti-seizure attributes. THC has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain relief) and antiemetic (prevents vomiting) properties.
CBD (cannabidiol) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are two cannabinoids found in cannabis, the plant source for hemp and marijuana. Both hemp and marijuana contain CBD. However, CBD products are derived from the hemp plant, as hemp contains a higher concentration of CBD. Marijuana contains a higher concentration of THC (the compound that causes a “high”).
CBD products may contain trace amounts of THC because the compound is present in the hemp plant. However, even at extremely high doses, CBD will not make you high. To be legal at the federal level, CBD products must contain less than 0.3 percent of THC.
As of December 2018, CBD is legal nationwide. Hemp-sourced CBD oil is legal in North Carolina and South Carolina.
The general dosing recommendation is to base your CBD intake on your body weight: 1-6 mg per 10 pounds of body weight. If you have questions, our pharmacists are happy to help you understand the best dosage for you and your condition. Click here for a helpful dosing chart.
According to The American Animal Hospital Association, CBD can reduce pain and stress in dogs, and boost their dopamine levels, thereby lifting their mood. CBD also affects the canine endocannabinoid system by reducing inflammation and lowering cancer cell reproduction.
CBD may alleviate a variety of physical and emotional ailments in dogs, including:

The answer is complicated and depends on how much CBD you ingest daily.
While unlikely, CBD oil can cause you to fail a drug test. This is because most drug tests screen for cannabinoids, and CBD is a cannabinoid, just like THC. Similarly, CBD oils may contain trace amounts of THC. (However, you’d have to ingest extremely high doses of full-spectrum CBD–thousands of milligrams daily–for THC to be detected.) A high enough concentration of any cannabinoids may cause a false positive test result.
